Brunch is something I really missed when I first moved to Sweden. In Australia, brunch is almost the equivalent of a Swedish Fika. Luckily, over the last couple of years, brunch has definitely become more popular here in Gothenburg! Now there are so many cafes open for breakfast, with Sunday brunch buffets and even vegan options!
Over the last year, I have collected all the best brunch places in Gothenburg and put them on this list for you!
So, here is the complete guide to the best brunch in Gothenburg!
Brunchoteket | Göteborg’s most popular brunch
Brunchoteket is probably the most well-known place for brunch in Gothenburg! On the menu, they have the type of brunch I associate with Australia – avocado toast, eggs Benedict, and French toast with Nutella and roasted white chocolate! They also have vegan options on the menu! This includes vegan pancakes, vegan Oreo pancakes, scrambled tofu, and chilli, white bean, mushroom toast!
Brunchoteket is located on Linnégatan and is open every day from 9 – 16 (17 on weekends). It gets REALLY busy here on weekends and unless you arrive early you will be most likely queuing for a table!
JOS | Healthy brunch
JOS is my “go-to” place for brunch in Gothenburg. This cafe is more on the “modern” side, serving a great selection of bowls, smoothies, salads and sandwiches! Our favourite breakfast is the açai bowl, the avocado smörgås, coffee and two fresh-pressed juices.
JOS had two cafes in Gothenburg. JOS Domkyrkan is located on Lilla Kyrkogatan. This cafe is open Monday to Saturday 10 – 18, and from 10 – 16 on Sundays.
JOS Avenyn is at the end of Kungsportsavenyn. It is open from 10 – 19 on Mondays through Fridays and 10 – 17 on Sundays.
My personal favourite is JOS Domkyrkan as it is almost “hidden” in a cosy little alleyway. The outside seating here is really nice and the perfect place for breakfast on a sunny morning.
COCO Orangerie | Best brunch on Linnégatan
COCO Orangerie is another of the best brunch places on Linnégatan, in central Göteborg. On Saturdays and Sundays from 10 – 16, they serve a very well-curated breakfast with both sweet and savoury options. They have the classics – smoothie bowls, avocado toast, eggs benedict and french toast – but they also have some added bonus like their hot tuna melt sandwich. I recommend visiting COCO Orangerie on a sunny day when you can sit out in the glasshouse by the fire and enjoy a lovely weekend breakfast.
Le GBG | Göteborg’s coolest brunch
Le GBG is a great place for a more contemporary brunch in Gothenburg, located on Risåsgatan, just off Linnégatan. It is quite a small cafe and fills up quite quickly so make sure to get there early to get a table! In the summer, their outside tables face the sun and it is a beautiful spot for a morning coffee. The menu is quite modern, with avocado toast, smoothie bowls, salads and smoothies! The food here is quite well priced, averaging from 100 – 130kr per dish!
Breakfast Society – Brunch Gothenburg | Contemporary brunch
The Breakfast Society is a very cool brunch spot in Gothenburg, only open on Saturdays it is incredibly popular for breakfast. They open from 9 – 15 every Saturday and have a great menu! We usually get the smashed avo and the grilled cheese sandwich! What makes this place most fun is the exclusivity meaning you can only go one day a week! It does get quite busy but you can book tables on their website if you know you are planning to eat there in advance!
Lindholmen Street Food Market | Saturday brunch
Lindholmen Street Food Market is a go-to place for anyone looking for a good place to eat in Gothenburg! On Saturdays, they open from 12 – 16, serving small dishes from local restaurants in a “food hall” type manner. When you arrive you purchase coupons which are then exchanged at the different counters for a dish! These dishes change every week and are often themed. Although it is not your traditional “brunch”, with foods such as bao, burgers and noodles, it is definitely a “brunch” worth experiencing. The food market is inside an old hanger and has a really cool aesthetic.
Lindholmen Street Food Market is located on Lindholmen. A great way to get there is taking the ferry from Stenpiran to Lindholmen and then walking to the food market. This takes about 10 minutes.
Egg and Milk | American brunch
If you want an American brunch then Egg and Milk is the place to go. Serving a brunch menu including pancakes or eggs, a bagel, yoghurt or fruit salad and a coffee for 109kr this cafe is very much value for money. You can also order off the menu and have vegan pancakes or a larger egg dish! Egg and Milk can get very busy on weekends so try to arrive early or head out for brunch mid-week. On Thursdays, they do all you can eat pancakes all day. This is a very family-friendly brunch restaurant in Göteborg.
Egg and Milk is located on Övrehusargatan and is open 7 days a week from 7 am – 3 pm.
Restaurang Norda | Luxury brunch at the Clarion Post Hotel
Restaurang Norda at the Clarion Post Hotel has one of the best brunch buffets in Gothenburg! On the spread, you have four tables with Swedish Japanese and Italian inspired dishes, as well as a bread station. You can then also pick one main dish from the menu, and head to the dessert table for a whole world of sweets to end your meal. This brunch is called Brunch Bubbles and Beats and is on every weekend between 10.45 and 16. It is a little pricey at 345kr per person, but if you have the money to spend it is definitely worth it!
Fröken Olsson | Classic Göteborg brunch
Fröken Olsson is one of the more traditional places for brunch in Gothenburg. On weekends between 9 and 12, they serve a great brunch buffet, including coffee and juice! On the spread is a classic Swedish breakfast, with freshly baked bread with different cheeses and vegetables, yoghurt and a fruit platter. Fröken Olsson is also one of the best places in Gothenburg to have a fika! So, obviously, their brunch includes an amazing arrangement of cakes (the carrot cake here is the best in Gothenburg so make sure to have a slice!) The brunch cost 139 kr per person.
Evas Paley | Slow brunch
Evas Paley is quite a big cafe located at the top of Avenyn. The interior here takes you back to the 1920s, with mirrored walls and velvet-covered chairs. On weekends, they have a breakfast buffet between 9 and 12. It is a great place for a slow Sunday brunch in central Göteborg. On weekdays, they serve breakfast packets instead of a buffet. These are the “Litet Frukost” which includes a drink and a cheese sandwich, and the “Mellan Frukost” which includes a cheese sandwich, a juice and a drink, and the “Hallelujah” which includes a cheese sandwich, a juice, a drink, a yoghurt and a pastry! This is a great place for a simple weekday brunch.
Eva’s Paley Göteborg is open from 8am on weekdays and 9am on weekends.
Kaffe Rosten | Everyday brunch buffet
Kaffe Rosten is another great cafe for brunch on Linnégatan. Every day they serve a traditional breakfast buffet, with fresh-baked bread, pastries, and warm dishes like egg and bacon. In the summer they have a great outdoor area facing Linnégatan. This is a great place for larger groups of people to meet or those with a good appetite for a Swedish style brunch.
Cookoo’s Nest | Brunch and spa
Cookoo’s Nest is another amazing brunch place on Lindholmen, the other side of Gothenburg. They open for brunch on Saturdays between 12 and 15.30 and serve an amazing brunch buffet. This is probably the best brunch buffet in Gothenburg if you want a mix of contemporary brunch food and smoothies in a more relaxed atmosphere. Cookoo’s Nest also offers a brunch and wellness packet where after your breakfast you can head to their wellness centre and enjoy some time in the sauna and pool. Can you think of a better way to start the weekend?
Le Petit Haga | Cosy brunch in Haga
Le Petit Haga is one of the cosiest cafes in Haga, the oldest area of Gothenburg. Every day of the week they serve a great brunch buffet, with waffles, yoghurt, bread and toppings, and freshly bakes scones. This is one of the best places for brunch in Göteborg if you want somewhere cosy with hearty food. Located at the end of Haga it is a great place to eat breakfast before a big day of exploring Gothenburg!

Restaurant Röda Sten | Vegan brunch
Restaurant Röda Sten has by far the best vegan brunch in Gothenburg. Every week they have “meat free sundays” where they serve an amazing vegan spread. Not only is the food great but the view here is amazing! The restaurantöis located in Roda Sten Konsthall, under the Älvsborgsbron. After brunch, it is always nice to walk along the river towards Älvsborg Badplats. This is a favourite weekend activity of mine in the summertime.
