Cherry blossoms are a clear sign of spring and they don’t come scarce in Gothenburg! In late April the bare city streets begin to transform in to magical pink and white flowery oasis’s. Here are the top places in Gothenburg to see the cherry blossoms and make the most of the spring season.
Seminarieparken
Seminarieparken is definitely the best place to see cherry blossoms in Gothenburg. In the middle of April this university park is transformed into an amazing pink oasis. When you walk past, all you can see is the pink blossoms peaking over the fence, and when you enter it is like an entrance to another world. The park is not so big and does get quite busy so the best times to visit are in the morning and the early afternoon on week days. It’s a beautiful spot to bring a book and sit in the sun under the cherry blossoms for a few hours!
Slottskogen
Slottskogen has a few beautiful cherry blossoms. They are spread throughout the park and usually only one or two at a tie. They usually start to bloom in the middle of May. There is one, however, which blooms early. This is located on the bridge that crosses over to Botaniska Trädgården and looks beautiful places in the middle of the busy path. The red bridge makes for a beautiful photo spot under the canopy of cherry blossoms.
Järntorget
Järntorget is one of the busiest and prettiest tram stops in the spring time. In the middle of April Gothenburg’s busy intersection is turned into a beautiful park. The tram stops now under the canopy of pink cherry blossoms. If you look up, you can see the beautiful city buildings through the trees and it is a great place to photograph the blossoms!
Botaniska Trädgården
In spring time Botaniska Trädgården is in full bloom. This is one of the best places to see cherry blossoms in Gothenburg. They are scattered around different areas of the park which is a great way to be transported to another land. This means that the cherry blossoms in the Japanese gardens resemble the big cherry blossom festivals in Japan, while those in the cottage garden have more of a country house feel. The best thing to do here is visit the Botaniska Pavilijong cafe for takeaway lunch to eat out in the gardens.
Haga Kyrkan
Haga Kyrkan is one of the best spots to go to see the spring in Gothenburg, and here there are a few beautiful cherry blossoms. This park is located just by Haga and is one of the best spots to bring a spring picnic and enjoy it under the cherry blossoms.
Kungsparken
Kungsparken in the centre of Gothenburg has a few cherry blossom trees. Although they are few and far between, these are around the first to start blossoming due to their position in full sun! The best tree can be found just down the park from Stora Teatern.
Skånegatan
As you walk along Skånegatan there is a beautiful alley of cherry blooms towers over the street. The best place to see them is just after the parking house and opposite Filmstaden Bergakungen. These cherry blossoms do not usually come out until early/middle of may as the area is not as open to the sun as other areas of Gothenburg.
Sten Sturegatan
Just down the street from Skånegatan is Stensturegatan. Here, you will see the right side of the street is lined with cherry blossoms. This is a more of a residential area to see the cherry blossoms in Gothenburg than the other locations. This means that there are often a lot of cars parked underneath. They are best seen at the end of May.
