The Historic Clarion Hotel Post in Gothenburg, Sweden
The Clarion Hotel Post is one of my favourite hotels in Gothenburg, and somewhere I would recommend to anyone! It is a beautiful mix of cultural history, with luxury chic design and amazing views, located in the centre of Gothenburg.
I have lived in Gothenburg for just under a year now and have wanted to stay here ever since I first visited the city! We have been having more and more staycations over the past few months, trying to focus on staying closer to home now that we have the chance. We were so excited to spend the night at The Clarion Post Hotel last weekend and I can’t wait to show you what we got up to in this post.
If you are a traveller looking for a hotel to stay in on your visit to Gothenburg or West Sweden, or a local to Gothenburg looking for a fun staycation, then look no further!
Disclaimer: I was hosted as a guest of the Clarion Hotel Post but all thoughts and opinions in this post are genuine!
One of the best hotels in Gothenburg Near Central Station
The Clarion Hotel Post is impossible to miss when you first arrive at Gothenburg Central Station. Located in the converted Gothenburg post office building, its historical architecture stands out among the newer architecture. The hotel has a such an authentic feel to it with the blend new and old history and culture to explore.
As well as the old building, there is a modern addition at the back of the hotel. This 13 story glass tower is home to the rooftop pool, with views across the whole city. We had a room of the 11th floor with a view of the central station and Gothenburg’s busiest tram intersection. I know it doesn’t sound that beautiful but I promise it was. Especially at night when you could see all the lights moving around.
The hotel has an amazing rooftop swimming pool, a spa, a bar, and two restaurants. The breakfast buffet is one of the best in the city and on Saturday Mornings you can also visit their restaurant Norda for something a little more special. We are looking forward to heading back soon to try them out though!
The best thing about the Clarion Post is that it is so easy to get to! If you are arriving by car, they have spaces where you can park and offer 24 hour tickets at reception! It is only a 2 minute walk from Gothenburg Central Station. So whether you are arriving by train or bus it is super easy to reach! If you are coming from the airport, it’s only a 30 minute bus ride from Gothenburg Landvetter to Nils Ericson terminal. From here you can walk through the station to the hotel!
Our Hotel Room With A View
Our room at Clarion Hotel Post was on the 11th floor, and it was a dream! As soon as we stepped out of the elevator and saw the views, we knew it was going to be amazing! We stayed in a superior room, with a double bed, sofa area, and bathroom with a bath and shower! The style was so refined and there was enough space to feel at home!
We spent most of the afternoon hanging out in the room, drinking tea and people watching through the big windows!
One Of The Only Hotels In Gothenburg With A Rooftop Pool
The rooftop swimming pool was one of my favourite parts of the hotel. I can only imagine the atmosphere up there in the height of summer, with music playing and guests sitting in the sunshine sipping cocktails. Again, the view from the rooftop swimming pool was AMAZING!
There is nothing I love more than when I travel that being able to see a new city from above. It really helps me understand how everything is connected and how the city works! I have to say that the view from the Clarion Hotel Post rooftop pool is probably my favourite of Gothenburg city so far! I love that you can see the main shopping street and one of the busiest tram intersections. It is fascinating to see the scene constantly changing as you watch! You should definitely head here when you visit Gothenburg and see it for yourself!
Postbaren – Great Cocktails and a Cosy Atmosphere
The hotel’s bar, Postbaren, is one of my favourite bars in the Gothenburg. It has an amazing atmosphere, with little inlets and hideaways to sit in and plants covering every wall. Even if you are not staying at the hotel, I recommend this bar during your visit to Gothenburg!
We were feeling like cocktails but nothing specific so asked the bartender to make us something a little similar to a margarita. He was so helpful and ended up making us one of the best drinks I have ever had! We spent a few hours sitting in here and enjoying the atmosphere before heading into the city for dinner! If you want a list of bars and restaurants in the city check out my post here!
The Best Hotel Breakfast In Gothenburg
The hotel breakfast was one of the best, with almost anything you could want to eat in the buffet! We both ended up opting for a bowl of yoghurt topped with different fruits and nuts, followed by a cooked breakfast and a salad! My favourite thing about this hotel breakfast buffet was the atmosphere of the dining room. I think they really excel on the design here. The room is almost set up to make everyone feel like they have found their own special little spot.
