Botaniska Trädgården, Gothenburg
Botaniska Trädgården, or the Botanical Gardens, in Gothenburg really come alive in the spring. Around the middle of April the flowers begin to bloom and the park becomes a hive of colour. Botaniska is a great place to come and see cherry blossoms, magnolias, and wild flowers. You can head out of the park to the nature reserve and walk though Vitsippor Dalen, a valley coated with wood anemone. On a sunny day the valley is lit up and the small white flowers look beautiful!
How to get there
You can reach Botaniska Trädgården by car or tram. There is a big carpark by the main entrance that is easily accessible and rarely full. If you are visiting by tram from Gothenburg you can catch the 1, 2 or the 7 from Gothenburg central station. The park is open from sunrise to sunset every day throughout the year.
Bohus Fästning, Kungälv
Bohus Fästning turns into a spring paradise around the middle of April. Wild flowers begin to sprout out beyond the fortress walls at the same time as the gardens start to slower. Here you will see all the traditional Swedish spring flowers as well as Daffodils, Lupins and Tulips!
How to get there
Kungälv is located just north of Gothenburg. The best way to get there is either to drive or take the bus. The bus from Gothenburg Central Station to Kungälv Resecentrum takes around 20 minutes and leaves the city every half hour. The best way to find a bus is on the Västtraffik website.
Kungsparken, Gothenburg
In April, Kungsparken becomes a field of yellow. Lit up by daffodils and wild yellow flowers, this is the perfect place to have a city spring picnic in Gothenburg.
How to get there
Kungsparken is located in the centre of Gothenburg city and is only a quick walk from the central station. If you are staying outside the city you can take any tram to Kungsportsplatsen of Hagakyrkan and then walk from there.
Trädgårdsföreningen, Gothenburg
Trädgårdsföreningen, or the Garden Society, is the perfect place to go and see the spring flowers. In the middle of April, everything starts to bloom and you will see tulips, daffodils, cherry blossoms, magnolias and more!
How to get there
Trädgårdsföreningen is also located in the centre of Gothenburg. It is only a two minute walk from the central station but can also be accessed from the entrance on Avenyn. To get to this entrance the best way is to either walk or take the tram to Kungsportsplatsen.
Seminarieparken, Gothenburg
This is the best place in Gothenburg to see cherry blossoms in the spring. In the middle of April the trees start to bloom and the netire garden outside the university building is lit up in pink. It is quite a small park so you do not need much time to visit but it’s definitely worth a trip!
How to get there
Seminarieparken is part of Gothenburg University and located in the south of the city. The best way to get here is to take the tram to either Linneaplatsen or Olivedalsgatan. Trams to these stops go from almost every stop in the city. From here it is only a 5 minute walk to the park.
Slottskogen, Gothenburg
Slottsskogen is the biggest park in the city and it is no wonder it’s one of the best places to see Gothenburg in spring time. The flowers here don’t start blooming until a little later in the season so the best time to visit is towards the middle of May. However, there are still a few cherry blossoms and wild flowers that come out in April!
How to get there
Slottsskogen is best reached by either walking or taking the tram to Linneaplatsen! Linneaplatsen is located just at the main entrance to the park. If you wanted to combine this with a trip to Botaniska Trädgården, the two parks are linked by two bridges over the highway.
Haga Kyrkan
Hagakyrkan is one of the first places in Gothenburg to come to life with spring flowers. In late February snow drops cover the gardens outside the church. In April daffodils and cherry blossoms appear and the gardens completely transform. Even if you are only walking past, this is a great spot to see the spring come to life in Gothenburg!
