When to visit the Skåne rapeseed fields
Usually, the rapeseed flowers are in full bloom from the start to the middle of May. This is quite temperature-dependent and some years it comes earlier, and some later! If the winter is mild and spring comes early, you may find that the rapeseed fields bloom as early as April! The raps fields bloom for 2 – 3 weeks in total!
As a rule of thumb, I would say that aiming to visit the raps fields at the start of May is your best bet. Of course, if you have the possibility to ask someone living in Skåne how they are looking, or even check Instagram for updates, you are more likely to get a good estimation!
Things to remember when visiting the raps fields
In recent years, farmers have had real problems with tourists coming and trampling their crops to take photos. To combat this, some farmers have made special areas for people to stand or walk through. When there isn’t anything like this in place at the rapeseed field you are visiting, it’s best to just look from the sidelines.
If you want to walk in the fields themselves, you will need to get the permission of the farmer. If you manage to do this, make sure to stay off the crops themselves and stick to the dirt tracks that often run between them.
